I prepared really well for this competition. The game "Lolfort" truly deserved to place—I thought I’d at least get an honorable mention. But now I’ve wised up. The criteria for winning are terrible. It’s completely unfair that the most played or most voted games win. People remix a game instantly without changing anything, then spend a whole month farming players. And if you have even a small following on YouTube or elsewhere, it’s super easy to bring people here and get them to sign up and vote for your crappy game. That’s not fair at all. I’ve learned my lesson. From now on, when a competition is announced, I’ll just make a trash game and wait a month, hoping it becomes the most played. I’ve lost all motivation for this platform. Just look at the community favorite—he barely changed anything, yet won $1,250. And I spent days working hard, only to end up with this result. It’s a joke I also have nearly 100,000 followers on YouTube. I could’ve easily brought them here and said, “Vote for my game” or “Just play it.” So why didn’t I? Because I’m a fair person. I hate injustice..
I’m confused. You didn’t advertise your game to your channel because you believe that votes and plays should come organically from people that just happened to find your game?
I believe this is what fairness truly means—everyone puts in effort. So how right is it for someone to win a competition just because they have a big following or social circle? That’s nothing but unfairness to the other participants. The reasonable approach here would be for the jury to select not just one, but three games—and to remove awards based on vote counts or number of plays. My English is pretty bad—I just hope I managed to express what I really meant correctly.
I understand what you mean. They have tried many different contest formats in the past. When the contests first started there were four places and all were awarded by a panel of judges. Then they tried having just one winner who won all the prize money, then they experimented with places being determined by the amount of plays that games got. The current format that offers four places for judge selections (top prize and three honorable mentions) as well as prizes for most plays and the most upvotes feels like the best of all the systems so far to me. At the end of day, it’s in the companies best interest to promote their site, that’s what these contests are for. So as long as you are not using any kind of scam, promoting yourself is part of the contest. It’s a skill that all game developers need to have, because you can create an amazing game, but if no one knows it exists, then no one will play it. I know it feels frustrating to not win after all your hard work and especially if you believe that your entry is better than others that did win, but the judging is not transparent, so I can’t tell you what they are looking for when they make their decisions. Perhaps the system will get better in the future.
I respect what you’re saying and your perspective—you’ve been here longer than I have and probably understand how things work better. But I don’t agree with you. Of course, companies need to do certain things to grow, that’s understandable. However, the core of this platform is game creation, and they should be supporting the people who actually make games more. Even if there are 100 thousand, 1 million, or 10 million users here, the only thing that will keep them engaged is the quality of the content. If you don’t reward the creators who put in real effort, what’s the point? The honorable mention prize is $250, but the most played or most voted game gets $1,250. Sorry, but when I saw the community favorite, I honestly couldn’t hold back my frustration.
Ben galiba 4. Oldum yani tüm sıralamayı jüri secse de yine honorable de kalıyorum. :D
One thing to remember is that Upit is still in a closed beta type of environment and is trying to grow its architecture to do exactly what you’re describing, but in order to support their creators better, they’re going to have to figure out how to make money themselves. AI generation is too expensive to continue doing what they’ve been doing. Once the money is figured out I hope they provide the exact type of support that you’re describing: promoting high quality content and working alongside creators. That being said, some of their choices have been confusing, but I am not privy to what goes on behind closed doors. I’m sorry and I understand your frustration.
I'm truly happy that you achieved this—congratulations I hope to see you in even better places in the future. But what I'm trying to say is that game creators aren't getting the support they deserve, and even the prize amounts clearly reflect that.
Congratulation all winners :D / @blackwidowink you did it. did they get my submission in doc or not i can't believe that i didn't get even the 6th place!!
that's because of the played and upvoted thingy rules for the 2nd and 3rd places :/ i did animations and challenged the code i didn't delete it like others did, I mean the real remixing to change everything in the game and add more for enemies, towers, system of playing, interfaces, texts of scoring or tutorials and so the text of starting game i made it electronic moving text while the girl with 3 frames animation talking...etc...I hope the contests changed to be judged for the 6th best designed games.

Thank you! I’m honored to finally secure a first place win. I hope that everyone enjoys the game; I’m currently working on updates to add even more engaging gameplay. I know everyone in the community here at at Upit is facing some uncertainty right now and I hope that everything gets figured out quickly. There were so many great entries for this contest made by a very talented and obviously passionate group of creators. Congratulations to all the other winners and thanks again!
